Electrical Testing & Inspection in Oxford
Know the real condition of the wiring in your home. We inspect, test and report clearly, so you can decide what, if anything, needs doing.
When electrical testing is worth doing
Electrical installations wear over time. Testing shows what is hidden behind the walls and in the consumer unit. It is worth having your home inspected if:
- You are buying, selling or have just moved into a property
- The wiring or fuse board is old and you do not know its condition
- You are letting a home you own
- Circuits trip, sockets feel warm or lights flicker
- An insurer or mortgage lender has asked for proof of safety
- You are planning building work, an extension or a new circuit
Inspection and testing, and how it relates to an EICR
Periodic inspection and testing is the process. An Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) is the formal document that records the result. If you need a certificate for a landlord, lender or insurer, see our EICR page.
If you simply want peace of mind about the state of your wiring, or a check before other work, we can talk through the right level of testing for your home before booking.
How an inspection works
A clear process every time:
1. Visual inspection
We look at the consumer unit, wiring, sockets, switches and fittings for damage, wear, overheating and anything that does not meet current standards.
2. Testing
Circuits are tested with calibrated equipment to check protection, earthing and the safe condition of the installation. Power is briefly off during parts of the test.
3. Report and next steps
You get a written report in plain terms. If anything needs attention we explain it and quote for remedial work. There is no obligation to proceed.

Electrical testing and inspection FAQs
What is the difference between testing and an EICR?
Testing is the work done on site. The EICR is the formal report that records the findings. We can carry out inspection and testing for a general check, or issue an EICR where you need the certificate.
Do I need the power off?
Parts of the testing need circuits to be switched off for short periods. We agree timings with you beforehand so you can plan around it.
What happens if you find a problem?
We explain what we found and why it matters, then quote for any remedial work. You choose whether to go ahead with us.
Do you test rented homes?
Yes, residential homes including ones you let out. We do not carry out commercial work.
